ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVITIES

Century of the environment ? The environment is a finite resource

Global warming, water pollution, ozone depletion, mountains of garbage, flooding, heat waves with so much attention focused on the local, national, and global environment, we surely seem to be living in the “Century of the environment.” Actively seeking ways to lessen the burden on the environment is both a condition for corporate survival in the 21st century and a concern of each and every person who lives on this Earth. The preservation and effective use of finite resources is no longer a secondary consideration.

In these circumstances, we regard the environment as an irreplaceable treasure. One of our corporate social responsibilities is to help pass on a beautiful and healthy environment to the coming generations. The small individual efforts of each of our employees, working together in a company, are able to make a bigger difference.

Message to future Earth: Let's Origami Action

The Japan Committee of the ICUN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) launched “Let’s Origami Action”: people are invited to fold paper animals and to write on them a message to send to the future. Resorttrust saw the value in this activity. Many of our hotels organized animal origami workshop events, which attracted numerous guests. While sharing the enchantment of richly varied origami, our staff appreciated the opportunity to think about the importance of nature with our guests.

Message to future Earth: Let's Origami Action

Via the ICUN, the messages that we gathered were delivered to COP10 and COP11 of the Convention on Biological Diversity, and to other meetings.

All over Japan our hotels prepare locally produced food

By bringing to hotel kitchens the pick of the local harvest in the freshest condition, “local production for local consumption” enables our hotel chefs to provide delicate flavors. Besides also reducing energy consumption for food transport, it helps to sustain traditional local cuisine and pass on food culture to the coming generation. All of our resort hotels are committed to this movement. The company also backs Food Action Nippon, promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, an initiative to increase the self-sufficiency of the nation. Resorttrust has signed on as a promotion partner.
